history of bayview

In the fall of 1962, Rev. L. L. Henderson saw a need for a place to worship in the Detroit Height-Valencia Park area and began to canvass the area for a possible church site. It was through prayer and consultation with other in the ministry that 6030 Detroit Avenue was chosen. Rev. Henderson proceeded to acquire the property for a church site. With much prayer and faith, Rev. Henderson secured the property in April 1963.

Bayview experienced more than a year with no earthly leader. Rev. W.E. Manley and Rev. H.L. Farrell served during this interim period. Bayview went down in united prayer for a pastor. Thanks to God, those prayers were answered. On June 19, 1973, the Rev. Timothy James Winters was sent by God to help. His greatest energies were channeled towards strengthening believers. Pastor Winters was a minister of vision. Because Pastor Winters lead God’s people under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we pause this day to give thanks to God who gave Pastor Winters 40 years of vision and we are thankful for using him to fulfill a dream.
